Review of The Bishop's Wife (1947) by Chrisanne S — 27 Dec 2008
My father-in-law recommended this one because I like "It's a Wonderful Life" and Cary Grant. So, it turns out that Cary Grant is an angel sent to answer an overwhelmed bishop's prayers for guidance right around Christmas time.
The only trouble is that "Dudley" the angel can't figure out what he's supposed to help with: convincing the bishop's benefactors that they need to spend money to help the poor and not on a grand cathedral or re-energizing the bishop's faltering relationship with his wife.
So, of course, Dudley does both. I watched this thinking it was kind of a rip-off of "It's a Wonderful Life," but I couldn't remember the release dates and it turns out this came out the year after IaWL.
So it's sort of a rip, but with a different angle. I don't think it's going into the Christmas rotation, but it's a nice one to watch at Christmas time.
