Review of The Birth of a Nation (2016) by Scott H — 11 Oct 2016
While it certainly has a lot to say and is certainly poignant, it suffers from too many jarring moments of mediocre filmmaking that are too obvious in presenting their inspiration from older films. The acting is superb and it never seems slow, but the ending is too rushed and formulaic.
Upon its conclusion, it doesn't feel as impactful as it otherwise should have. Good, but nothing great.
