Review of The Birth of a Nation (2016) by Carlos T — 05 Jan 2017
Nate Parker seizes every opportunity he is given to strike his audience. Unfortunately, The Birth of a Nation can't help but pale against 12 Years a Slave which was only released a few years ago. Nonetheless, Parker's piece is powered by an extraordinary story with great acting.
Parker's direction and script is also worth noting as he ultimately offers a punishing watch. The Birth of a Nation tells an incredible story which audiences will gain much from. It's not a perfect movie but it's one which will still manage to hit all the right notes.
