Review of The Birth of a Nation (2016) by Steve W — 01 Feb 2017
Its hard to not like this movie because of the important subject matter, but the movie is not that good. Its overly heavy handed and pretentious t times, and feels like its repeating better scenes in other movies.
Nate Parker and his cast performs well, but the movie takes too long to get the rebellion parts, and ends too abruptly. From the uneven pacing to the lack of real history (Turner also killed women and children), the movie feels like a missed opportunity because a movie with about this should be memorable and engrossing.
