Review of The Birth of a Nation (1915) by Josh C — 03 Nov 2008
Technically this film is a masterpiece for when it was made. D.W. Griffith is one of the greatest directors of the silent era. Griffith also was one of the early directors to make "full-length" feature films.
The music in the version I watched was also amazing. As for the racism, it is racist by today's PC standards yet in 1915 it would not have been. In fact by today's standards even Woodrow Wilson would be considered racist.
The bottom line if you are a film historian or interested in the history of cinema, this is a must see.
