Review of The Birth of a Nation (1915) by Arlene M — 02 Apr 2016
The Birth of a Nation (1915) ????
Griffith's Civil War/Reconstruction period silent epic is a criterion point in cinema history and has the power to grip any audience. The former for its still-controversial honoring of the Ku Klux Klan; the latter, particularly, for the most impressive battle sequences in history. Never a dull moment, even in spite of its extreme length. Captivating and fascinating; don't miss this. Thomas Dixon, Jr. filmed a follow-up, THE FALL OF A NATION, which was the first sequel ever made, although it's considered lost.
