This film is dated, unfortunately, but perhaps that is a good thing as far as seeing the progressions made in American film's portrayal of a queer family. Still, this film is filled with so many great lines, it could be enjoyed just for those particular treats.

Williams, Lane, Hackman and Wiest pull off enormously hilarious performances - though of course, the loudest laughs are reserved for Azaria's over-the-top Agador Spartacus. The film does struggle to find its way at times, but the message of "We Are Family" rings through at the end, however haphazardly.

Hackman's final scene is priceless and fabulous.
