Review of The Big Year (2011) by Maya T — 10 Jul 2012
Disclaimer: Despite the funny-men that are cast in it, this is not a comedy, but it is cute and fun! A star-studded piece of fluff that can be liked by all, though perhaps loved by none. It is a solid scoop of vanilla; an easy watch and gentle ride (the teacups at the amusement park comes to mind).
It follows tender, though obvious, themes and life-lessons so loosely camouflaged they almost glitter like a diamond string that powerfully and ostentatiously strings together the scattering of tepid dialogue.
Thankfully the actors are utterly watchable in themselves and they portray the heavy-handed universal themes in an endearing way. The cinematography is gorgeous, the nature scenes are visually beautiful and take us all through a bird-watchers dream of landscapes and feathers.
I'd put it on in the background time and again. :).
