The best of the Bogart and Bacall screen duets, The Big Sleep is quite possibly the best film to come out of the "noir" genre of the 1940s. Oft imitated but never equaled, this is a movie you have to watch to fully understand its impact on cinema.
Raymond Chandler's story is absolutely flawless, the acting is top notch, and Howard Hawks' direction is awe-inspiring. One of the top 5 films of all time, without a doubt.
