Review of The Big Sleep (1946) by John C — 11 Jul 2010
The acting, dialog, Hawks's rapid direction and the chemistry between Bogart and Bacall all add up to something greater than the sum of its parts. The plot is so twisty that even the filmmakers couldn't explain why one of the murder victims was killed.
But that's part of the picture's charm.
