Film noir at its best! Howard Hawkes (Scarface-the Shame of a Nation) crafts a cinematic masterpiece, "The Big Sleep." This film showcases one of the best performances from the legendary Humphrey Bogart (Casablanca), playing a private detective investigating a blackmail scheme.

The story may not be as complex as the Maltese Falcon however this film's overall look, theme and story is a lot more cinematic and at times easier to follow despite its complexity. Film noir is such a great genre in films, I love the dark atmosphere, music and mysterious plots to the films.

Bogart is the perfect actor for these films. The story was great and its climax was exciting,at times its slow paced but it always picks back up and gets completely awesome. Bogart knows how to entertain at all times.

The Maltese Falcon may have "made" the genre, but this film is the one that refined it and established the formula for noir films to follow. Truly a classic.
