Review of The Big Sleep (1946) by Ernest D — 22 May 2012
Probably Howard Hawk's masterpiece, The Big Sleep is the kind of movie that lacks today. A deep and dark storyline that is mixed with plenty of other sub-plots, This film is the archtype of the noir genre.
the legendary duo Bogart/Bacall is at his best. Who would be a better choice than Humphrey Bogart to play Philip Marlowe? Maybe a 6.2' tall Humphrey Bogart. Following very closely the story of Raymond Chandler.
The only probleme of this film is the Hays Code that prevent it from completely delivering all the complexity and the atrocity of the book.
