Review of The Big Sick (2017) by Jon H — 25 Mar 2018
What makes this film particularly engaging is the cultural interplay between the Muslim and Western sociological perspectives. In using humor or satire to divulge a fresh yet piercing lens into a heavily shrouded subject on both sides the audience is given insight into the sweetness laying just beneath, and how peace is actually possible.
(Similarly, this theme is also effectively explored in the book West of Kabul, East of New York by Tamin Ansary:.). The Power of Love is the star of this movie and it innocently seeps into your heart to give it a good warming.
The fact that it is based on a true story validates it's meaning and invites us to drop any quiet judgements we have been harboring about the people of Islam and the ancient customs which bind together their cultural heritage in order to make room for it again within 'The Great Melting Pot.
