The "Big Sick" was packaged as a romantic comedy - Pakistani born boy meets local girl, loses girl and finds her again. There were laughs but the film turns out to be much more than a thin romantic comedy.

It has legs. Starring actor/writer Kumail Nanjiani cuts through a broad swatch of material showing us how art reflects life. While boy and girl love their differences, his family, religion, race, and society are mired in conflict.

The great melting pot turns into a great melt down. When life overwhelms love and love comes crashing down, Ray Romano playing the girl's father confides the real truth about love. "Love hurts.

That's why they call it love." He knows love leaves us wide open, but in the "Big Sick," we learn that love can triumph.
