Review of The Big Short (2015) by Chris F — 25 Mar 2016
"When the levy breaks... " the closing song of the film paints a perfect picture of what happened in 2007 when the housing market crashed. This film despite attempting to be part comedy (because let's face it would just be too sad of a true story) does an amazing job of explaining in layman's terms of what went wrong with the banking system.
Clearly a lack of ethics and the taste for greed allowed banks to issue adjustable rate mortgages (which should not even exist) and "ninja" loans (no income no job) so they could continue to make their profits any way that they could.
It is unreal to think that the economic downward spiral that took place from 2007-2015 could have been avoided, as it was predicted by a small minority and even more upsetting to see how those that created the mess by destroying 5 trillion dollars in financial assets were bailed out.
Extremely important subject matter and as a side note great performances by Christian Bale, Steve Carell, Brad Pitt and all the supporting cast.
