Review of The Big Short (2015) by Street J — 03 Aug 2017
Of all the films made to date of the 2008 Financial collapse, the Big Short is one of the most entertaining due to clever editing and raucous style. While it doesn't approach the lasciviousness of THE WOLF OF WALL STREET, it manages to "teach" the layman the basics of "Credit Default Swaps" and "Synthetic CDO's" before quickly dismissing them to get back to the clever dialogue of sass-mouthed sociopathic Hedge fund Managers. The movie doesn't take itself too seriously and never feels boring. The relationships between the main characters is well thought out and at-times, hilarious.
While TOO BIG TO FAIL and MARGIN CALL take the subject more seriously (Drama rather than Comedy) , The Big Short manages to educate, entertain and warn in an extremely efficient 130 minutes.
