It was a much better book but the movie did follow the story line well. I don't think I would have casted Luke Skywalker (i.e. Mark Hamill) in the role of the soldier who can't bring himself to shoot the enemy.
I would think after the first few guys in my unit get shot or killed that should piss you off enough not to pull any punches.
