Review of The Big Red One (1980) by Vera V — 14 Jan 2011
A very under-rated war film that undoubtedly had influence on future war films (such as Saving Private Ryan). The movie has no real narrative arc or cohesive plot. Rather, it is a series of episodes regarding the "Big Red One" in World War II.
Some may criticize this point about the movie, however in actual war, there is no narrative arc or plot either. War is crazy, chaotic and absurd. The film captures all of these points. The work also contains very striking images.
