Review of The Big Red One (1980) by Jake G — 15 Oct 2009
I had always wondered how Sam Fuller, whose credits include a number of B movies, would have made a war film. THE BIG RED ONE is my answer- a film with excellent Fuller action, hard cast characters, and little emotional complexity.
Boasting an impressive budget and a LONGEST DAY-esque all star cast, Fuller gives us a comprehensive look at major battles of WW2, through the eyes of a single unit. Fans of Fuller and war movies alike may interested to see war in B movie context- it's a completely different experience than, say, THE SANDS OF IWO JIMA.
