My absolute favorite comedy (as far as laughs go, that is) - Lebowski is memorable, hilarious, and also happens to be a mystery movie! The characters are perfect; the chilled, lax Dude, paired with the short tempered, Nam-obsessed Walter being the main duo.
Every character plays a great part - even characters with small parts in the film are memorable (Jesus Quintana perhaps being the most hilariously non-involved). The Coens create a great film which follows The Dude as he is placed in a series of events starting with a pee'd on rug, and leading into run-ins with German Nihilists (bearing a striking resemblance to Krafwerk.
..), abusive cops, mute brats, a car that gradually becomes more and more disastrously wrecked and, of course, lots of bowling. Genius.
