Review of The Big Hit (1998) by Tranelle P — 21 Jul 2007
Whalberg dizes into a room, repels off the side of a building, single handed he kills about a dozen guys as he is shooting with two hands in a break dancing motion on the floor, admist detonations of smoke bombs. He is out of breath, and tired when Lou Diamond Phillips walks in, shoots a few of the dead guys on the floor and asks Wahlberg where he had been.
The movie is incredible in its ability to be over the top and enjoyable, while constantly making fun of films in the exact same genre.
The nice guy hitman, his home life, love interest, and a botched job are what drive this classic action comedy.
I put it up there on my lists of both favorite action films, and favorite comedies of all time.
If you haven't seen it, go watch it a few times.
If you like Rush Hour, Lethal Weapon, Die Hard, True Lies, then you will appreciate this movie. Plus the main character hitman is named Melvin Smiley. He has to be a hard ass.
