Review of The Big Country (1958) by Alison P — 17 Jun 2008
Gregory Peck is just soooo noble. He refuses to fight, even when called a coward, unless it's on HIS terms. Pretty, but kind of slow and boring.
There's a famous contracts case in which a studio contracted with Shirley MacLaine to make a feminist movie starring her, but then tried to back out, and offered her in recompense a supporting role in The Big Country. Not surprisingly, the court ruled that a film alternately titled "Big Country, Big Man" was not an adequate substitute.
