Review of The Big Clock (1948) by Chip H — 07 Mar 2008
One of my favorite films, The Big Clock contains one of the greatest shots in movie history: a long single take set in an elevator, opening onto the various floors of a publishing empire- each time the elvator door closes, the set behind changes.
The shot was paid homage to in Barton Fink, and the film itself has been remade at least three times, as No Way Out (starring Kevin Costner), as Police Python 357 (starring Yves Montand), and as Out of Time (starring Denzel Washington), although the latter film did not acknowledge the influence.
