Review of The Big Blue (1988) by Don D — 27 Jul 2017
'The Big Blue ' is an unforgettable and beautiful drama, whose melodramatic aspect appears to be part of his popular success. Surely, it isn't flawless (its caricatural portrayal of Molinari's mother has been justly criticized, along with its slowness), but Barr's and Reno's mesmerizing interpretations of Mayol and Maiorca, Serra's hypnotizing score and the dazzling, endless Mediterranean blue suggested by the title make it a one of a kind movie.
