Review of The BFG (2016) by Rhys Eldrid D — 16 Jul 2016
Theres one thing I cant take away from this film and that is the giants, which were really the only highlight of this film. I has a relaxing feel to it with magical scenery and environments that give a warm cozy feeling.
The CGI cant be beat and casting that was spot with the relationship of the two being closer than ever. This however doesn't make a great film, the story does. The more I watch films I am always stuck saying the words cluttered mess when it comes to a story and this is exactly the term I would use for this.
With scenes that are just unnecessary I felt that they were only done for cinematic reasons. There is a particular scene that drags on and on and all I could to was tap my foot on the ground waiting and waiting for it to be over.
Compared to the resolution it felt like it was longer by a good 20 minutes which should not have been the case. There are also sudden changes to the story that are obviously on purpose that just makes you think HUH? Overall it was a beautiful film, cinematically that is, with a story that was bland and fell short of the mark and one that never made my heart rate rise but in fact lower.
