Review of The BFG (2016) by Grant F — 18 Jul 2016
The BFG is a perfectly likable little film. Spielberg goes out of his way to introduce the world of the giants and slowly develop the story, and although much of what is in the movie isn't exactly necessary, it works. His methodical approach brings the characters that much more to life.
Ruby Barnhill is a fantastic young actress and the other actors are easily recognizable from a number of other movies. I didn't even know Rebecca Hall was going to be in it. The effects are pretty good, but I began to forgive that they weren't so fantastic once the story got going. There still could have been a little more invested into them.
There's no reason to rush to see The BFG, but it's worth seeing on TV. There weren't any kids in the theater, so I don't know if they would have been bored or not, but I liked it.
