Review of The Best Years of Our Lives (1946) by Hannah D — 23 Nov 2012
A really watchable drama about three servicemen who return from war duties to their domestic set-ups and all three of them struggle to adjust to their new lowly statuses. One has lost the use of his hands and now has crude mechanical ones in place.
Another is forced to return to work in a drugstore for a measly wage, which is not enough to keep his materalistic wife happy, and the other finds work as a bank lender, but he finds his newfound empathy with soldiers seeking a financial hand-up lands him in trouble.
The film is rather long at nearly three hours' long, but it doesn't ever get boring with really good characters and dialogue.
