Review of The Best Years of Our Lives (1946) by Ben W — 13 Nov 2008
Wyler, hawks, and several others were able to make consistently good movies throughout most of their years. this is part of the case one would make for wyler. its long but its one of the few out there that is fully justified in its length.
while its a bit romanticized like many films of the era, it is painfully real in some moments and was ambitious in its approach to the subject matter in the first place. pretty much all the acting is good.
im not sure why but teresa wright has such a magnetic presence in everything ive seen her in. soldiers dealing with coming home from the war and finding it just as difficult in some ways. if you cant like this movie.
..you might want to find another medium entirely.
