Review of The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel (2012) by Jake P — 03 Mar 2013
Honorable Mention:
What happens when you assemble 7 elderly British Veteran actors into a single film? You get The Best Exotic Marigold, a movie I called "feel-good movie of 2012". The movie is about 7 elderly British citizens that all decide to spend retirement in India. Each of the 8 main characters have their own storyline to follow, each with their own events. The movie never confuses individual plots, they are interwoven perfectly into each other. The movie is essentially about how these characters have an impact on each others lives. Although I can point out how each individual plot is simple and linear, quantity makes up for quality by providing us with enough story to fully entertain for 2 hours.
The story itself is very sweet, there's a lot of light-hearted humor throughout, and many loveable characters makes it a great movie to brighten up the mood. There are many aspects of love, friendship and caring throughout, and the great performances by the entire main cast help to give this story a natural feel, and gives the story a strong human touch. You care about all the characters, because they all mean the best for each other and just want to find their individual happiness. And in the end, isn't that what we all want?
