Review of The Benchwarmers (2006) by Dwight F — 15 Nov 2009
Meh. This is nothing special. The acting is sub-par and there are style-ruining ridiculousness. What I mean is that sometimes the action/effects step outside the verisimilitude of the movie. Still, it isn't the worst movie I've ever seen. It may be a worthy watch for many on the cheap (or free as I saw it).
Rob Schneider plays himself as a normal dude, while David Spade plays his normal character and Napoleon Dynamite plays himself. The rest of the cast being even worse. Jon Lovitz wasn't as annoying as usual though, and really, Schneider (the star) was the best of the group and likely has the most potential as an actor.
The story concept is nothing new or outstanding, but it's one of those old dogs that you still love. The execution via the script was fairly poor and the movie ranges throughout it from a 1/10-4/10 depending on the part. It has a few funny spots and would be a fine late night TV movie.
