Review of The Bells of St. Mary's (1945) by Irvin C — 20 Sep 2007
The sequel to "Going My Way" (well, not so much a sequel as just another story with the same character) does that rare feat of being even BETTER than it's predecessor. Fr. O'Malley (Bing Crosby) butt heads with a group of nuns headed by Sr.
Mary Benedict (Ingrid Bergman) who run a parochial school. This is probably the best non-Jesus Catholic film ever made and manages to be genuinely moving (as well as utterly charming and witty), thanks to the great script, great direction and great performances ESPECIALLY Ingrid Bergman who gives one of her finest on-screen performances.
You need not be a Catholic to fall in love with this film.
