Review of The Bells of St. Mary's (1945) by Abigail D — 13 Dec 2008
It's a good movie, but I really don't understand why it's thought of as a Christmas movie. Bing sings a Christmas hymn and the first-graders put on a little Christmas skit, but Christmas isn't at all the focus of the movie, which chronicles happenings throughout the school-year.
Maybe it's because its original release was in December? (And gotta give it props for being on the marquis in "It's a Wonderful Life" when George Bailey is running through town happy because he wants to live again.
).
