Review of The Beaver (2011) by Bradley W — 01 Dec 2011
A rather ballsy drama for both the actor and director about a man treating himself with a self-discovered therapy for his severe depression and the effects it has on his family. A daring film to make at the time considering Mel Gibsonâ(TM)s public image when it was released, the film suffered from a poor marketing campaign that painted the film as lighter weight then the heavy drama actually is. And critics were ready to pound Melâ(TM)s return to the screen despite being directed by critical darling Jodie Foster.
A serious drama about a manâ(TM)s rebirth that topples the rest of his family in his wake, itâ(TM)s a serious statement about the depth of depression and how it can run as an inherited disease in families.
