Review of The Beaver (2011) by John O — 09 Dec 2011
Beautiful, moving and well acted movie. Despite the controversy surrounding Mel Gibson these last few years, I have never stopped admiring him as an actor. And with his performance in The Beaver he proved once again why he is one of my favorite actors.
There is an enormous amount of depth, humour and intelligence behind the character Walter Black and while the movie is at times a little lacking, Gibson's portrayal of a man who needs to face his world through a puppet (it basically plays like a mixture between Richard Attenborough's Magic and Lars and the Real Girl) elevates the movie to one of the best movies I have seen in 2011.
