Review of The Beaver (2011) by Matthew D — 03 Oct 2014
I understand that sometimes the tone of a picture has to be melancholy in order for its story to be successfully portrayed, but I don't think that is the case with Jodie-Foster directed The Beaver, which wastes its talented cast on a meh script and a straightforward, depressing approach which could've ultimately become more fruitful if instead Kyle Killen's so-so, run-of-the-mill script injected just a bit more humour into an already average feature.
Okay, so Mel Gibson, Jodie Foster and Jennifer Lawrence give prodigious performances, but all their (depressing) charm can't save this sinking ship. However, The Beaver has its moments, however rarely.
