Although there may be a bunch of scenes that shoot out unintentional laughter, The Beaver succeeds with incredible heart, showing a tortured family and how they each deal with it. It never makes fun of the situation rather gives another alternative to deal with depression and hopelessness.
By the end, whether you cry or not will tell if you liked it or not.
