Review of The Beaver (2011) by Brian W — 24 Jun 2012
An interesting take on someone's mid-life crisis, The Beaver is a creative and thoughtful piece of work. The Beaver is a surprisingly dark movie for the most part. Mel Gibson really does a good job or portraying both Walter and The Beaver.
Especially when the two of them come into confrontation with each other. What I didn't like so much about the film is that I felt they really rushed the beginning of the movie. Foster should have went deeper into the extremes of Walter's depression.
The Beaver was introduced into the story too early. I needed to see more of Walter's condition before the change came into play. Also I thought the movie could have used some more comedic relief. The Beaver became really depressing to watch after a while, and that just made things really boring.
But for Foster to direct and star in this film, I have to give her credit for her talent. With The Beaver Foster has proven that she can not only act; she can also direct a quality film.
