Review of The Beaver (2011) by John E — 03 Mar 2013
Not really what I was expecting, but not unlike Anton Yelchin's character, I like to be surprised. This was at times a dark and emotional film. Yelchin and Jennifer Lawrence team up again with a lighter background love story which contrasts, quite well, the deep and dysfunctional relationship between the leading veterans in Mel Gibson and Jodie foster.
Fosters direction and vision is clear here and the genre doesn't always resonate well with people in the States but I personally am a huge fan of a deep and emotional story which crosses the line on occasion and wow the acting powerhouse than is Mel Gibson is absolutely superb.
.. years on, controversy aside, the man brings such wonderful acting abilities. Well worth a watch, but for sure mood killer.
