Review of The Beach (2000) by Kevin G — 29 May 2011
I really liked this and thought it was totally undeserving of the bad rap it got from critics. Danny Boyle's style is something I always generally appreciate and the nature of the characters and story is completely captivating.
In essence it's a philosophical thriller that examines a living utopia where the major goal in life is enjoyment, but at the cost of being held responsible for others. Leonardo DiCaprio serves as a terrific protagonist and really powers the entire movie.
However, aspects of it remain slightly undefined and I felt needed some more development. As a whole though it's really fascinating and truly exciting to watch.
