Review of The Beach (2000) by Lora R — 18 Jan 2012
I thought The Beach was a thriller/horror film, because of what I've seen in the trailer and the music video "Pure Shores" by All Saints back in 2000. The movie is more of an adventure drama. The location (the island) was beautiful and magical. Leonardo DiCaprio performed really well, especially in the "jungle madness" scenes. I also liked Robert Carlyle. It's a pity that his role was small though. Tilda Swinton was a good choice as the "leader", because she looks scary and mean. The rest of the cast was okay.
The story is nice and has enough action. I don't know about the other viewers, but throughout the movie I always got the feeling that something bad was about to happen while it mainly didn't. Also I think everyone can relate to the characters. Doesn't everyone once in a while want to escape from their daily life?
The Beach is a good movie, but they could have added some more action to the story. I haven't read the book so I can't really judge I guess.
