Review of The Bay (2012) by Richard D — 11 May 2013
Pretty good idea for a found footage film, where it isn't a monster or a ghost or a witch, but rather mother nature mixed with the bad aspects of man, turning on the people. In fact, this probably should have been an all out horror film so we could have seen more of the disease and how it spread, as the way it is, it had to be shown based on news reports or 'found footage.'.
It had some really good moments of realistic gore and kind of a wag the finger at all these big greedy corporations that hate the environment, and could end up killing a lot of people if something like this ever happened. At least two moments were jump out of your seat scares, but the film's biggest scares are just that this totally could happen and probably will.
I didn't even realize that was Kristen Connolly, from Cabin In The Woods, as one of the lone characters that gets a lot of screen time. The lead reporter and her too tight pants are pretty good too.
I had no idea what this film was about but rented it based on the cover art and really enjoyed it. One of the better found footage films in my opinion, but I do enjoy when a film reminds us that the environment must be respected, not rejected on. It maybe goes on a tad too long, despite it's shorter run time. I think it needed a more human side of it than just the reporter, as nearly every other bit of footage doesn't give us any characters to care much for.
