Review of The Battle of Shaker Heights (2003) by Zak G — 31 Jul 2004
Man it's been a while since I've seen a really good film............with THE VILLAGE being the colossal disappointment that it was, and every piece of shit I've rented since I saw ANCHORMAN(which is the last great film I've seen), I need something to make me happy again. Hopefully, Jonathan Demme and THE MANCHURIAN CANDIDATE will fix that shit tonight.
So, THE BATTLE OF SHAKER HEIGHTS. It's exactly what you'd expect a Project Greenlight film to be. Not that good. You know what is good though? Shia LaBeouf. This kid is fucking genius, fucking hilarious. I can't exactly explain why this kid is so funny, he just is. He's got great, natural comic timing.
I, ROBOT is the big disappointment of the bunch, especially coming from Alex Proyas. DARK CITY and THE CROW are classics, and I expected more from him with this film. Instead, I got less, much less. Again though, Shia is the shit.
So far, a disappointing as hell weekend for films, although I don't think this weekend would have been half as mediocre if I hadn't wasted money on THE VILLAGE at the beginning of the weekend................damn.
