Review of The Battle of Shaker Heights (2003) by Jeremy K — 18 Aug 2004
Battle of Shaker Heights, The (2003) Shia LaBeouf, Elden Henson, Amy Smart, Billy Kay, Kathleen Quinlan, Shiri Appleby, William Sadler, D: Efram Potelle, Kyle Rankin. Engaging if slight coming-of-age teen angst drama, the second feature film from Matt Damon and Ben Affleck?s HBO Project Greenlight endeavor, about a teen misfit (fully played by LaBeouf), who enjoys reenacting wars, meeting a friend from a higher class and becoming infatuated with his new pal?s sister (Smart).
Not every plot thread holds up here or is given enough weight to develop, but the young cast (especially LaBeouf) rises above the material and makes it well worth watching. Running Time: 79 minutes and rated PG-13 for language and some drug references.
