Review of The Batman (2022) by Brpoconnor — 09 Mar 2022
There were a lot of 'interesting' choices involved in the creation of this movie. To start, the dialogue sounds like it was written by an edgy 12-year-old boy. I suppose that's fitting since that seems to be the target audience. It wants to be dark and edgy, without ever actually committing to anything dark or disturbing. It tries too hard while simultaneously falling flat. A lot of character decisions don't make much sense if you think about them too hard. The romance doesn't make any sense- it feels just shoved in there. There were some scenes that they clearly wanted to include, even if they didn't fit very well. Batman walking through water with people following- it's a cool shot, I admit, but it feels awkward and inconsistent with the rest of the scene/movie. Lastly, the movie is way too long at 3-hours. I don't regret watching it, but I wouldn't watch it again. The best part of this movie was that they included some amount of detective work on the part of batman- this is interesting and hasn't been included in other recent renditions of batman.
If you want to turn off your brain then this is probably a fine movie. If you have any bit of skepticism about what you're being presented, the movie will disappoint.
