One could say the filmmakers took the noir label "a bit literally." The big problem with gritty, dark, "realistic" batman movies is that Bruce Wayne the billionaire could do far more good for Gotham with his money than vigilante Wayne with his gadgets and fists.
The decision to go for a "realistic" batman is particularly ironic considering the limited action scenes; in particular the one where batman slams into a bridge after jumping off a building.
the overlong movie should've ended there.
