"The Batman" did not try to make an origin story, but a story about building a more detective side of Batman, which is little explored in the movies as it is in the comics, in addition, the film tries to show the symbology and the consequence.

Also, it's important to see that Batman, in his second years on the streets, is still imperfect, that he's still in a process of identity construction. In that second year, he investigates a series of murders of Gotham's politicians and influentials (who were related to Batman).

However, an unexpected moment, such as banners and the political case was exactly with the corruption of the city, becomes something more personal, which has psychological consequences and shakes Bruce's essence and mentality throughout the plot.

It is also interesting to analyze how the film connects the Riddler's life with that of Batman: Trauma motivates one to fight crime, while the other to commit them.
