Review of The Basketball Diaries (1995) by Derrick D — 09 Feb 2008
It's a decent movie but it gradually loses it's punch. The kid gets addicted to heroin and misses out on a promising basketball career. OK. I got it. I don't need 2 hours of it though. I found the subplot very uninteresting and actually kind of pointless.
The confession scene lacks drama and emotion but the thing that pulls this movie out of oblivion is Leonardo's acting. And a bit of his overacting in some parts.
