Review of The Basketball Diaries (1995) by Marcus P — 13 May 2011
DiCaprio has always been a favourite of mine and it's apparent that he was just as talented in his younger days. He did an amazing job at portraying Jim Carroll through his rough decline into the world of drugs.
Wahlberg and other performers serves well in their supporting roles but the spotlight was fixed on DiCaprio and his deep embrace of his role. The lighting in this film really helped create that dark, dank and grimy New York street theme.
The script was well-written, and character development was illustrated in this film very well in a morbid manner. I also appreciated the poetic narration's done by DiCaprio, those were well done. Overall it was a moving film that kept me entertained through the whole thing.
