Review of The Barkleys of Broadway (1949) by Benjamin S — 16 Nov 2009
Ok Astaire/Rogers flick with some terrific dancing and singing. The film is very boring though with some dreadful acting from some of the supporting cast. Poor Billie Burke is reduced to a throwaway role and is sorely missed.
Ginger Rogers looks breathtaking, however her Costumes have a lot to be desired about, what was designer Irene thinking?!?!?! Some of the scenes feel as if everyone was smoking something. Astaire dances with animated tap shoes in one segment, very odd.
Overall the technicolor is bright and beautiful, but the film is a total bore.
