Review of The Banshees of Inisherin (2022) by Compi24 — 08 Nov 2022
Martin McDonagh's follow-up to the 2017 critical darling "Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri" is tight, relatable and — I think — an even better movie. Full stop. In fact, with Martin McDonagh being one of the few filmmakers whose filmographies I've seen in its entirety, I'd say this is easily his best film since "In Bruges," which says a whole lot.
"The Banshees Of Inisherin" is simple, yet layered. Beautiful, yet ugly. Hilarious, yet horrific. If there's any work in this filmmaker's oeuvre that I think is the perfect, most simple distillation of his voice/tonal DNA, it has to be this.
Beyond that, you have the acting, which is stupendous, the cinematography, which is magical and the overall experience, which is lasting and satisfying. Terrific work here from everyone involved.
